You could label her work anthropological or sociological science fiction, with the fact that aliens, or space travel, or wizards are involved, becoming almost secondary.I had previously read the author’s collection of novellas, The Found and the Lost, and was generally pleased with the content. She does not write space opera, but instead focuses on character development and human (or alien) interaction. ![]() But Le Guin is not your prototypical science fiction (or it turns out, fantasy) author. It was not until later that I discovered her science fiction work and grew to enjoy it immensely. She has had her work collected over the years, but this is the first short story volume combining a full range of her work. She has won multiple prizes and accolades from the Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters to the Newbery Honor, the Nebula, Hugo, World Fantasy, and PEN/Malamud Awards. The Unreal and the Real is a collection of some of Ursula K.
